Do You Qualify?

If you can answer “YES” to these 3 questions, you can apply for the fully funded G-Max energy storage solution:

Do you have solar panels on your building or are you planning to install them?

Are you an educational institution, social housing provider or residential care organisation?

Do you want to reduce your energy costs and make better use of your solar power?

Scheme FAQs

Is it really free? Nothing comes at zero cost anymore.

Yes, it’s completely free. SEG CIC covers the full cost of the battery and installation. We recover the investment through energy trading revenues, not by charging you.

You say it’s risk free. Please explain.

You don’t lease, buy, or finance the battery. SEG CIC owns it, maintains it, and covers any servicing or repair costs. There’s no financial risk to your organisation.

Can I reserve one if decision-making is slow?

Yes. We understand schools and businesses may take time to reach decisions. You can reserve your interest while your internal approval process takes place.

I currently receive a FIT (Feed-in Tariff). How will this be affected?

Your FIT payments continue as normal. The battery does not interfere with your generation income.

How long does installation take and who does it?

Most installations take just a few days. They are carried out by accredited, professional installers. For schools, all installers are DBS-checked.

What size is the battery and where does it go?

The Fox ESS G-Max is about the size of a large fridge/freezer. It is usually installed in a secure plant room, energy cupboard, or similar location.

Do I need more than one battery?

For most schools and businesses, one battery is enough. If your site needs more, we’ll discuss options with you.

Do I need to have a minimum number of solar panels to qualify?

No, there isn’t a strict minimum. The G-Max battery is designed to work with a wide range of system sizes. What matters most is whether your site generates enough excess solar electricity to make good use of storage. During our initial assessment, we’ll advise if your system is suitable.

How does the 25–30% increase in solar use work?

Normally, unused solar power is sent back to the grid. With a battery, you store this extra energy and use it later, making your site more self-sufficient and reducing reliance on the grid.

What happens if the battery goes wrong? Is there maintenance?

SEG CIC owns the battery and takes care of all monitoring, servicing, and maintenance. If there’s ever a problem, we fix it at no cost to you.

Who owns it? Will it ever belong to us?

SEG CIC owns the battery to guarantee community benefit. After 10 years, your organisation also begins receiving a share of the trading income it generates.

You say “speed up payback”, but I thought it was free?

“Payback” refers to how quickly SEG CIC recovers its costs through energy trading, not to your organisation. For you, the savings start immediately and you pay nothing.

What share of tariffs will I receive after 10 years?

After year 10, your organisation receives a fair share of the trading income. The exact percentage will be detailed clearly in your agreement with SEG CIC.

Any GDPR issues? I see data and AI are involved.

All data is handled securely and in line with GDPR. Only energy performance data is used to optimise the battery, no personal data is collected or shared.

My solar panels are several years old, could that stop me from qualifying?

Not necessarily. Solar panels do degrade gradually, but most remain productive for 20–25 years or more. The important factor is whether your system is still generating enough energy to benefit from storage. We’ll check this as part of our free compatibility assessment.

Is your consumer unit accessible and within 20 metres of site for a possible GMAX battery?
(We will need a flat level surface to mount the battery. This would be on an external wall and at floor level. Measurements are 1040 x 1500 x 2200. Access would be needed to deliver and move the battery and weight is approx 2500kg. We will survey your site to ensure we can site a battery appropriately.)
Are you part of a Fit tariff agreement? (This makes no difference to your fit tariff agreement, or to receiving a free battery, this is for our own records only)
Do you have plans for further additional solar or sustainability measures?
